My wife asked me could I remember a time throughout my childhood that I was truly happy? My reply was of course baseball cards. I grabbed my old boxes and started going through them and the feeling of excitement returned instantly. Nothing else mattered when I was sitting with my card collection and ripping packs. The feeling of getting to go to a card shop and spend the entire day there was what me and my friends lived for. When I walked into Cardiacs I was met by smiling faces and men who knew exactly the feeling I was chasing. I spent a few hours in the shop my first day. I could not believe, and still cannot believe the relationships that my wife and I (who has been going through surgery after surgery due to a cancerous thyroid that was removed last year) have built! Not only did they sit down and reminisce about the old times, but walked me through the best way to start collecting again, as things have changed since the 80s and 90s lol. I receive emails letting me know that they are praying for my wife and I, and sometimes to just check in with us through text messaging before and after the most recent surgeries.The first day I met my newfound friends we talked for hours and everything else disappeared. In today’s world it’s hard enough sometimes dealing with public. Opening doors and people not saying thank you. Everyone is in such a rush, some don’t care about anything else but what’s going on in their own lives. Everyone is so buried in their phones and caring about others just is not part of today’s society unfortunately! I never imagined I would meet the most amazing group of people that genuinely care and show genuine concern about another human being. My wife and I are extremely grateful for our newfound friendships that we have made, but we are just as grateful for the truly altruistic acts of everyone there. The amazing thing is, I don’t just see it with my wife and I, I see it in every interaction with every customer that walks through that door! From my wife and I and from the bottom of our hearts, thank you! Keep being kind to people and continue to do what you do 🙏
